Safwan Zar, MD

Safwan Zar, MD is a Pain Management Physician and board-certified Physiatrist. Dr. Zar specializes in treating non-operative orthopedic conditions with a particular focus on minimally invasive spine interventions, ultrasound-guided procedures and rehabilitation medicine. Dr. Zar completed his undergraduate and pre-medical education at the University of Connecticut (Storrs, CT). He then went on to complete medical school at St. Georges University School of Medicine where he graduated magna cum laude and member of the Iota Epsilon Alpha (IEA) Medical Honor Society. Dr. Zar completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital-Albert Einstein College of Medicine (White Plains, NY), where he served as the Administrative Chief Resident. He then pursued advanced training in Pain Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY), where he served as a Chief Fellow developing experience performing various interventional pain procedures. Dr. Zar’s commitment to pain medicine is represented by his contributions to several peer-reviewed research publications, presentations and textbook chapters. Dr. Zar focuses his practice on providing compassionate care to restore function and quality of life for patients suffering from spine, musculoskeletal, and nerve pain. He aims to provide a tailored treatment plan for his patients utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to treating pain including collaboration with specialists, evidence-based medicine, and offering modern interventional procedure alternatives when appropriate. Dr. Zar grew up in Milford, Connecticut and is ambitious to provide his expertise treating chronic pain in his home state. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, watching UConn Huskies basketball and spending time with his family. Dr. Zar will be accepting new patients in Norwalk, Connecticut.
